Painting holidays and workshops in Greece. Based in a lovely quiet village
Location: Palairos, Aitolo-Akarnanias, Greece
Holiday / Activity Overview:
In our little greek village opposite onassis' island at the Ionian sea we offer:
> week long courses > 3 day courses and > 1 day courses in all painting techniques.
The tutor who is from Amsterdam, is a first degree art teacher who will gently challenge you to discover new skills and enjoy the relaxation of painting in the beautiful countryside, as well as enjoy the wonderful laid back Greek village life. Tutoring is every morning after morning coffee, usually from 9.30 till 13.30, or as long as it takes to finish your artwork. Aternoons are free to explore and enjoy the surroundings.
There are many places to visit and things to do, so non-painting partners will enjoy it as well. For singles this place is also atractive, the Greek village is very open and soon you will find new friends, and become part of the local relaxed way of life. The appartments are air conditioned and have their own bathroom, are close to the village center but in a quiet location or at the more lively seafront. We have one 2 pers. cabin in the mountain near the teacher's house for those who want absolute nature or who like hiking. Our climate is mild, not too hot generally.
Guide / Holiday Course Tutor
Barbara is a first degree art teacher from Amsterdam, she speaks English, German, Dutch and a bit of Greek and French. A very personal approach is the key to her success, she will challenge you to explore new ways of looking, painting and eliminate insecurities. Classes are mostly a maximum of 3 pupils. This personal approach is very different from the bigger artschools that offer holidays and with Barbara often pupils leave as friends. She feels blessed to discover and expose people's talents and loves to be a trusted guide on that road.

But we could have a nice barbeque up the mountain at our house if you like!
About the local area:
Things are different here in the lovely village of Paleros, people in our little Ionian fishermen town still know how to take the time to enjoy the good things of life, the pace of nature, the clear blue sea, friendship, love, children playing, the wisdom of the elderly, good food, philosophical discussions over a nice glass of local wine. As a tourist one seldom gets to the heart of things, unless you take time to stop here for a while and let the Greek life sink in.
Paleros is situated on the mainland of Greece, opposite the island of Lefkada. In the back we have our mountains and at our feet lies the blue clear sea. We have two beaches, in the village a small beach and at a little distance a big sandy shallow beach with a stunning view. Along the village beach we have several small taverna's and restaurants and a few clubs. Paleros Village is a lovely resort to wander through. The low-rise buildings are made of whitewashed stone, their woodwork painted in the traditional blues, greens and vibrant pinks of the Mediterranean. Set amongst gardens full of flowers, it's easy to while away your time here. Around us we have stunning countryside, with flora and fauna unspoilt and very green, because we are close to the famous Korpi wells. Actually we have that same water coming from our tap! Some people take a medicinal detox retreat with this water, curing several illnesses and clearing the body, the nature around will clear your mind.
How to Get Here:
Travelling to Paleros is, thanks to the nearby airport quite easy. The actual name of the airport is Aktio, but your travel agency will call it airport Preveza, because that is the nearest bigger city. When you look for flights the airport is used for travelling to Lefkada island, or Lefkas island, a popular tourist destination. The airport is 30 minutes away, a 40 euro fair by taxi.
Flights from Holland are every Saturday with Transavia airlines. Flights from Germany are with Air Berlin from Duesseldorf, also frequently used by dutch travellers because they are cheaper. Flights from the UK are more frequent, some of the pricefighters fly to Preveza. Many english flights arrive in the weekend on sundays. In wintertime you can fly to Athens and then take the bus, approx. 4 hours ride, costs approx.40 euro. We pick you up in the next town.
