Andrea Borsuk from California 8th - 21st June 2012
This workshop will allow both passionate beginners and inspired artists to discover possibilities and explore a variety of methods to respond to and interpret the surrounding landscape of Tuscany. Learn how to expand upon themes in your work through traditional and alternative drawing and painting techniques.
In this workshop, we will use a medley of mixed media techniques with new processes to create a
diverse yet cohesive body of work.
Review:
I have studied painting with Andrea Borsuk for three years. I consider her a marvellous teacher. She clearly defines her expectations and is obviously well prepared. Andrea pulled from me work I did not know I was capable of painting. I think she is inspirational and gifted; I love her work, but aside from all that, she's as funny as a tree full of galahs and her classes are very popular.
Creativity from the environment with Julia Adams Friday 29th June - Thursday 12th July 2012
What better place to paint and draw than the visually exciting medieval hill-top town of Casole d’Elsa and the surrounding Tuscan landscape. I am thrilled that our stay at Casole will be during Palio time , which sees the town come alive with procession , music and street parties in the lead up to the race and so is a great place for people of all ages .
During the course I will be offering workshops in water-colour , acrylics and drawing techniques which will take place in the spacious studios at the centre. The atmosphere will be relaxed and enjoyable.
These sessions will be suitable for those of you who wish to learn new techniques or brush up on existing skills. You will also be encouraged to go out of the studio into the surrounding areas to draw and paint finding your own subjects as a source of inspiration. During workshop time we will work from a variety of starting points including still-life, landscape and the human form.
Huw Richards Evans - Watercolour and mixed media Painting Course July 27th - Aug 9th 2012

Known as a couture designer, Huw is now developing an ever growing reputation in the art world. His landscapes have attracted collectors from as far afield as the USA and Japan and is a regular exhibitor in the South West and in Wales. "An exquisite soprano" .. the recital was "lifted into ecstasy". (Musical Times)

Bella Green - Connecting with Colour 31st August - 13th September 2012
Connecting with colour is an opportunity to go deeply into this most essential expressive element of painting and to explore it in a way that will benefit your own painting. When you connect with colour then colour will connect with the viewer and communicate in its own unique way what you aim to express in your painting. Whether you are just beginning or are a more experienced artist, really understanding what colour can do, how it works and how to make it communicate what you want will be our main theme for the course.
How to mix the colours you want and how to solve visual problems of space and form through colour will be explored as well as painting techniques for different kinds of colour expression. There will be the option of structured exercises as well as slide shows looking at, and learning from, the work of other artists. Whether you want to observe closely or experiment freely with colour and more abstract techniques this course will give you the opportunity to really develop your work in the beautiful surroundings of Casole D’ Esla
Subject matter will be found by working directly in the landscape with drawing and making colour studies to develop later in the studio. Still life, interior and street scenes around the Centro d’Arte are all also there to explore and study. There will be talks and practical demonstrations in oils and acrylics. These are the suggested mediums, but you are free to bring whatever are your personal favourites. A full list of what to bring will be sent on booking.
Reviews:
"Bella's course in 2011 was the first painting course I have attended, and what an eye-opener. Others on the course had experienced tutors previously where basically the students had to copy their exercises to learn, emulating them. Bella is just the opposite - you learn to express your own feelings through Bella's encouragement and guidance, and explore art talents that you did not know you had! Bella's course about abstraction even helped experienced artists, who previously had only ever painted in a representational way, to 'break their own rules' and create their art in new more expressive ways. - Graham Robinson, Reading,
Bella puts a lot of work and thought into her course agenda to make every day refreshing and entertaining, provides detailed course notes and personal tuition every day after the morning tutorial. I never realised how much I could learn in the two weeks, even learning the secret of what makes certain paintings stand out from the rest. " - David Donnison, Glasgow.
‘Bella’s a great teacher. I’ve been going to her courses for twenty years in Scotland and in Tuscany where she assembles a delightful, friendly group of students at the Centro d’Arte Verrocchio which is a lovely school in a lovely village.” - E. M. Paris
"Bella' skills as a tutor are really exceptional The group and personal tuition, the lectures, the choice of exercises, were so well thought out that they got you immediately into painting with none of the usual inhibitions in front of a white sheet of paper. Personal projects were developed, encouraged, and helped through useful advice. Bella created a studious but cheerful mood, and with enthusiasm I discovered new horizons. I look forward to other holidays with Bella, the two week painting course was an unforgettable delight."

I must confess - it is a dream come true to work with the Verrocchio Art Centre! I have been dreaming about working with the centre since I first went there almost 10 years ago! I am also excited about the tours we're going to organize: this won't be the classic tourist tour, where you taste a few wines and good food and have a superficial idea of what Tuscany is. This will be like a story told and lived by the guests, from a special and local perspective, they will have a very customized and special experience where food, art, landscape and real life are mingled together to make their week unforgettable.
More about Giulia Scarpaleggia
I’ve been living in the Tuscan countryside since I was born, in the same house where my father was born and my grandmother was born. Tuscany is my daily life and the landscape I see from my bedroom window each morning.
Giulia has written for Jamie Oliver jamie oliver See her article on his blog
My first and enduring passion is England and other foreign countries . I’ve always loved travelling and discovering new countries and new cultures through their culinary traditions and other people’s experiences. When I am abroad, I am often asked about my country, our typical wine and food, nature and small villages sitting at the top of the hills. I started seeing my home land through the eyes of foreign people and I discovered a view, a new point of view new colours, fresh and primitive emotions, genuine flavours and tantalizing scents. I fell deeply in love with the vision that foreigners have of Tuscany. Each day I discover a new sight, a new traditional dish, brand new sensations, interesting and true people: I live my experience of Tuscany with the enthusiasm of a child.
The Course:
Our food and wine tours of Tuscany will tell you a story: you will live our region from a special and local perspective, you will enjoy an unique experience where food, art, landscape and real life are mingled together to turn your holiday into an unforgettable week.
During the week there will be three hands-on cooking classes in the spacious kitchen of the Verrocchio Art Centre, where you will learn the Tuscan country cooking, made of wholesome meals, simple and seasonal dishes.Later on you will enjoy the dinner you have made sitting on the terrace overlooking the soft hills of the Tuscan countryside, sipping a glass of the local wine.
Along with the cooking classes you will enjoy daily trips to markets and local farms, to have a first hand experience of our productions: wine, extra virgin olive oil, goat cheese and pecorino cheese, Chianina, Cinta senese and seasonal vegetables.
To make your experience even more complete, you will taste unforgettable meals at the best local restaurants, pairing the most genuine and traditional food with excellent wines.
