Watercolour and Acrylic Painting Holidays
Our Art courses are suitable for beginners as for advanced painters. The techniques will be taught in suitable individual steps in the student´s own preferred medium. After becoming familiar with the colours and the techniques, you will quickly learn to use them in a more relaxed way and to follow your own inspiration. We will work either in the Workshop Studio or in special choosen places around our area. The courses start in the workshop, because there is the best place to become familiar with the material (colours, brushes etc...).

Discover your ability to capture a landscape with sketch pad and brush. Suddenly you discover forms, lines and nuances of colour that you have never seen before….. The idea of our painting course is to combine learning new skills of Watercolour and Acrylic painting with a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

It is easy to make friends on the course as the workshops are organized in small groups with a comfortable, easy going, atmosphere. You will also have the possibility of creating your own individual holiday either by exploring the fabulous countryside with your family and friends or by relaxing around the pool and in your own holiday home.

Basic knowledge of colours, composition and perspective will be taught through practical examples. But the most important thing is to learn to see. Switch off your thoughts and trust the perception of your eyes. Suddenly you will explore lines, formes and nuances of colours, which you haven´t seen before.

Accommodation
We can offer you a choice of various types of accommodation either in the small town of Cómpeta or within the grounds of our property, "Finca Maroma” - in total we have 10 different options for you. For example Studio Maroma is located below the main house and is suitable for 1 or 2 people whilst Casa La Vina offers comfortable accommodation for upto 6 people at 560 euros a week in peak season. Additionally in Cómpeta itself, we can offer 4 appartment which are suitable for up to 2 people. Whether you wish to attend a course on your own, or come with your family or friends you will find we have an accomodation solution for you.

Tutor
Christa Hillekamp: If there is something important that runs through my whole life it is an interest in human social problems and art. For me art encompasses many disciplines including painting, handicrafts and design. There have been phases in my life where one or other profession has dominated, but usually I have combined both interests: e.g. art groups with prisoners during my work as a social worker in a prison or art and therapy with problematic teenagers in a project in Andalusia and Tenerife. My work as a theatre scenery painter meant working very close to a special theme. That gave me great pleasure.

One of my aims on this course is to help the students/pupils achieve the ability to express themselves freely, independently from any theme, to paint exactly what they feel. Not to concentrate on creating an "art work” but to allow free individual expression throughout the creative process. I also want the students/pupils to share a little part of the fun I feel while painting and creating.
Finally, I would like to add that I have always been fascinated with the techniques involved in creating murals. e.g. marbling, trompe d’oeil etc.

Location
Finca Maroma is situated into wine-terraces, Orange trees and other subtropical fruits. On the spacious terrain there are the main house and three other houses, which we rent out for course participants or holiday guests. From Finca Maroma you look down a wide, green valley, across the white washed villages, south to the Mediterranean sea. Behind the Finca you are surrounded by mountains, dominated by the impressive peak of the Maroma (2065 m).

The studio workshop (50 qm) is situated in the upper part of Finca Maroma. It has two windows and an archway entrance. You can either work on the tables or at the easels. Here the students can continue painting after the lessons have finished or try out new techniques. There is space enough for more experimental work with the available basic equipment .
The workshop has a comfortable sofa-corner for relaxation while drinking tea and coffee (free) or for to get inspiration by studying the art books available.

The workshop is always accesable. Apart from the morning sessions the students can use either the workshop or the terraces for their work.

The nearby mountain village Cómpeta (walk of 12 minutes) with its narrow alleys, decorated with lots of flowers, offers impressive painting motives.

Getting There:
From Malaga airport you take the N340 around Malaga following directions to Motril. Once on the motorway you take the exit for Algorrobo. Leaving the motorway, at the first roundabout you turn left, towards the mountains and through the village of Algorrobo. Carry on through the village of Sayalonga to Cómpeta. You drive round Cómpeta following directions to Canillas de Albaida (pronounced Ca ni yas). Just out of Cómpeta, on the left hand side, there is a building with the sign "Bodega Jarel”. There you turn left and after about 100m you will see, on the right hand side, the entrance to "Finca Maroma”. Driving time: approx. 1 hour. We are able to arrange for a hire car to be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive or alternatively, we offer a pick up service from the airport for 40 euros if you would prefer.
