Overview
Our courses are practical and project based and week long, using Digital colour or classic B&W Photography. They involve learning and discovery combined with a focus on what to photograph & why? As you photograph on location you will learn & practice strategies for making : Photographs which tell stories, Portraits which go beyond the surface. And learn to take the most from 'chance' encounters.

These Workshops are about establishing and following your trail of desire, and...

  • working on visual communication skills, toward being an author photographer
  • learn to find 'subjects' and 'approach' which will continue to merit your curiosity and respect.

The words of a previous student may help you to get a feel for what you will learn should you choose to spend a week in Provence:

"On my return, I felt every mile I had covered was worth it, my morale and self confidence was very much higher....The workshop opened my eyes to the world around me. For some subjects; Reportage, Contemporary photography, there were not enough hours in the day, every waking hour was filled.... There were very stimulating discussions of ideas , in good company, with good food and wine and in a magical area of France. I took away printing skills and a new approach to my photography. I hope to return for future workshops".
Brenda Palmer LRPS, Southampton, UK. For more student comment see my web site linked from the bottom of the page.

By the end of the week you can expect to feel rejuvenated. To have: started work on three or four series / uncovered ideas in images - which you can continue to develop at home / Be putting together a new portfolio, be thinking of an exhibition / and Know your way to finishing and moving on.

Accommodation
Is in Gites or Chambres d' hotes (B&B). Gites are purpose designed, independent holiday houses or apartments, with a long French holiday tradition. For individual use or sharing, they have fully equipped kitchens and some even have a terrace in the sun. All are either in the village, in the surrounding vineyards, or on nearby farms. There is even camping. (its for everybody, poor students too, with Wk/s discounts).

You can reserve your own accommodation, see http://www.ansouis.fr/, telephone the village Tourist office 00 33 490 09 86 98, or, we can organise it for you, since we know most of what is available. Eating is of course a great pleasure in France. Generally we eat together on location I recommend a mixture of picnics, cafes and reasonably priced restaurants.

Location
Provence is a country studded with myth and magic, the sites of miracles, of ancient battles between virtue and infamy. Places which invite and inspire response. With good reason Provence has a tradition of attracting writers, poets, painters and now photographers. Discover the Provence of Legend, of fairy tale. However dream- like; the places remain the same... the legends started here. Discover street photography, portraiture, work in cafes and markets, and of course sunlight from the horizontal to High-noon, from liquid gold to the purple haze in the mountains as the sun sets, air perfumed with herbs of Provence, they all help.

Getting There:
You can be collected and returned to the train station in Aix-en-Provence, the new TGV station, or Marseille airport.
