Holiday Course Overview
OceanCapture Adventures are run by award-winning land and seascape photographer Jonathan Chritchley on the coast in south west France, in an area known as Les Landes between Biarritz and Bordeaux – a region known for its stunningly wide beaches, endless pine forests and beautiful lakes. The holidays are friendly, relaxed and casual, and Jonathan will be on hand at all times to guide and offer assistance where necessary. The groups are small, with a maximum of 5 people, thereby ensuring both comfort and personal attention. You will be travelling short distances in a comfortable, spacious air conditioned vehicle, and there are of course state of the art digital workstations available to download your images. The emphasis is on locations, composition and exposure, but RAW workflow, editing and post production will also be covered if desired.

Sample itinerary:
On a typical photography holiday here you can expect the following (example using a 3 day break):

Arrival day - Pick up from the airport. Back to the hotel to settle in, then a briefing by Jonathan to discuss the next three days shooting. Your evening will be yours to wander around the village or along the beach, maybe grabbing a bite at one of the bistros and restaurants around the lake.
Day one - Early start after breakfast, to visit the first of the locations - seascapes, sand dunes and fishing boats on the lake. 2 hours shooting and then back to base camp for downloads. After a break for lunch and a couple of hour's free time, you will be off to another location with Jonathan, this time into the forest. Two hours shooting and then back to base camp for downloads. Your evening is your own - perhaps hire a little boat and check out the lake, hire bikes and take to the forest cycle paths, or just kick back with a bottle of local wine and some good food...
Day two - 7.45am start and off to a nearby lake for small fishing boats, old jetties and forest paths. 2 hours shooting and then back to base camp for downloads and editing. There will then be free time until 9.30pm when you will head out with Jonathan to shoot the sunset. Back by 10.30pm (summer).
Day three - 8am start, heading off on a 45 minute drive to Biarritz, and along the coast towards St Jean de Luz, stopping at several wonderful locations, including striated rock formations, fishing villages and great beaches. This trip will take most of the day, so picnic lunches will be supplied. Back to base camp mid afternoon for downloads, editing and printing, then the final individual evaluations with Jonathan. Time for a celebratory drink together, then your evening is your own.
Day 4 - Free time until it's time to head off to the airport or station for your return journey home.

The above schedule is an example, and may vary according to time of year and weather conditions.

Although we will be travelling in a large, comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, to ensure that the maximum time is spent on site I endeavour to keep journeys as short as possible with several destinations being only a few minutes drive away and the furthest being under an hour. In the event of bad weather, we may have to travel a little further in order to make the most of the day. If we leave the road to go through the forest, we keep to specific tracks that in no way harm the environment or wildlife. There will be a certain amount of walking, both in sand and through the forests, to get us to some of the chosen locations, so an elementary level of fitness is required. Those with reduced mobility are welcomed on the course; however any special individual needs would need to be discussed to ensure that we can meet your requirements.

About Jonathan
Jonathan Chritchley studied photography in London in the mid-1990's. Having assisted several fashion, commercial and marine photographers, he uprooted and moved to the south of France 9 years ago, finally fulfilling his dream of photographing the ocean and the people whose lives revolve around it.

Jonathan is now based in Les Landes, north of Biarritz, but spends much his time travelling to some of the best water, beach and natural locations in the world for a growing list of clients, working in and around the ocean to create his trademark dramatic images. At the beginning of 2007, Jonathan started Ocean Capture Adventures - photography holidays in his beloved Aquitaine region of France aimed at people with a love of seascapes, forests, lakes, perfect light and space to breathe.

Location
Les Landes is a beautiful and largely unspoiled stretch of coastline on the Bay of Biscay between Bordeaux and Biarritz, with wide, endless sandy beaches and unbelievable skies, high sand dunes overlooking hundreds of miles of pine forest, marine and freshwater lakes and of course the immense power and presence of the mighty Atlantic ocean. The dramatic backdrop of the nearby Pyrenees is also ever present, often featuring in Jonathan's photographs, and the beautiful towns of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz, often visited during the photo safaris, are a short trip away.

How to Get to Us
Vieux Boucau, where you will be staying, is a large coastal village with sea water lake, beautiful wide beaches and all amenities 40 minutes from Biarritz airport (Ryanair - Stansted, Shannon and Dublin), 1.5 hours from Bordeaux (Flybe/Easyjet/BA - London, Bristol, Southampton, Manchester and Birmingham) and only 45 minutes from the Spanish border. Pick ups from Biarritz airport and local train stations (Dax/Bayonne/Biarritz) are included in the holiday price. Other pickup points may be available (by arrangement only) and may incur additional charges.

Flight times to Biarritz from the UK are approximately 1.5 hours, to Bordeaux just a bit less. Other airports within 2 hours are Pau Pyrenees (France) and Bilbao (Spain).
