Puglia Gourmet has been created to offer you an insider's experience of the delights of Puglian food and cuisine. Having lived in and loved Puglia for six years, Cathy and Keith are waiting to share their favourite food experiences with you. The week's itinerary will take you to exquisite restaurants, local meat eateries, cheese-making farms, delightful vineyards and olive oil mills for tastings. You will meet the most charming local people who are passionate about their lifestyle and their produce, whilst touring the spectacular Puglian countryside and towns. Your accommodation will be in the fabulous Trullo Solari, a traditional country building in five acres of land which has recently been converted to a luxurious holiday villa with private pool.

Guide / Holiday Course Tutor

Cathy and Keith moved to Puglia six years ago, to restore their new home and their holiday rental villa, Trullo Solari. During this time their love and admiration for Puglia and its people - and its food and drink has continued to grow.

Their vegetable, fruit, egg and chicken production is expanding and they spend many seasons preserving produce and pressing olive oil. They will be delighted to share these treats, their knowledge of small scale food production and their passion for the best restaurants and food producers in the area with you.

Your accommodation:

Welcome to Trullo Solari, a newly restored trullo that will accommodate eight people in beautiful, green comfort. The traditional Puglian trulli have been fully modernised to provide comfortable spacious living.

Surrounded by olive groves and fruit trees, simply relax by the private pool.

Trullo Solari is a 300 year old building, with the traditional "trullo" cones of this region of Puglia. Two of the integrated "lamie" still have their original barrel vaulted ceilings. The house has recently been redeveloped. The original features have been respectfully updated, yet the renovation has used progressive design to open the space within the building to provide maximum comfort and create a spacious, luxury accommodation.

The property has been designed to be beautiful, comfortable and environmentally friendly. Solar power is used for hot water and heating the house, and waste water is re-used (please use the organic bodycare and cleaning products provided). In cooler months, underfloor heating and the woodburning stove will keep you warm. The trullo's traditional thick walls and high ceilings keep it cool in summer.

And through the marvels of technology, a wifi connection is now available in this idyllic rural setting.

The surrounding grounds are maintained organically.

About the local area:

Puglia offers a wealth of diversions; two coast lines, a vast number of hill towns each with their own characteristics and always beautiful, rugged scenery with knarled olive trees, spring flowers, red soil and acres of vineyards. With blue skies and a fantastic light, it is certain to restore your spirit.
Puglian food, born out of poverty, makes the most of the fresh mediterranean fruit and vegetables, and the abundant local seafood. Meat has been a rare treat here for many years, and as such is cherished and celebrated in simple Puglian fashion. The olive is king, and the intense flavours of the Puglian food owe much to the delicious and fresh olive oil.
