Mt Pelion is a Walker's Paradise!
We have two guided walking weeks in 2012, one in June (29 June-6 July) and a second in September (7-14 Sept). Each week is a varied programme of guided 4-hr morning walks — through apple orchards and olive groves, deep into the woods, up the slopes of Mt Pelion, along the wilder stretches of coast line, on ancient donkey tracks (Kaldarini) down to the gorgeous white sandy beaches of the Aegean. Each day's trek starts right after the buffet breakfast and ends on a beach where we have a picnic lunch and an afternoon swim. Along the way we enjoy some of the splendid views and treasures of this area: the 800 year old Plane Tree at Tsangarada, Damouhari Beach where parts of the film Mama Mia was made, the Ski resort at the top of Mt Pelion, perhaps an hour's horse ride, and much more. We are picked up about 6pm in the early evening, although those who enjoy a challenge may choose to walk back (4-6km) to the Centre (about 90-120 min). Daily itineraries are tailored to the requests and abilities of the group. Although some of the routes offered are more challenging than others, a modest level of fitness and agility is quite adequate for these walking holidays. Pricing information
The week including full board and accommodation is 425 Euro. This does not include flights or transport to the centre. KaliKalos is a community experience and guests are required to contribute to the daily programme of the centre over the week this will mean 7 hours of light work around the centre. The Kalikalos Centre at Hotel Martiou is located at the edge of the village of Kissos, four miles (7 km) from the sea, and 25 miles (40km) east of Volos, Greece's 6th largest city. Volos is 4 hr by bus from Athens, 2½ hr from Thessaloniki and 1½ hr by “Flying Dolphin” hydrofoil from Skiathos island. There are direct flights to Volos (VOL) on Air Berlin, Ryan Air and Monarch air (from Manchester and London, Gatwick.)
