Holiday / Activity Overview:

The lagoon of the Mar Menor has many islands and beaches which can only be accessed via the water. Since the water is very shallow in many areas kayaks provide the ideal vehicle to explore. We will take you on a an excursion adapted to suit your fitness and ability. We can also go bird watching or snorkelling (depending upon the time of year).

The exact route of the Kayak Safari will be determined on the day depending on wind and weather conditions. The amount of time spent paddling and snorkelling is entirely up to you. We take all our trips at your pace! Kayak Safaris normally run from between 2 to 4 hours in length; various destinations and itineraries are possible. Experienced kayakers can take a trip to the Calblanque Natural Park or onto the Mediterranean.

Our Kayaks

We use the "sit on" style of kayak suitable for those new to kayaking and also fun for those who have been before. We can run private trips which are scheduled on demand, we also run a number of open enrolment trips throughout the year. the maximum group size is 12.

The kayaks are very stable and comfortable and the double seaters are particularly suitable for parents with children. Safaris are suitable for children age 5 and above. Children under the age of 16 should normally be accompanied by an adult, however, exceptions are possible.

Pricing information

Kayak Safari prices depend on the length of the trip and the size of the group. Group sizes can range from 1-12. Outside high season most trips are discounted by 5 euros per person. For full price list please see our website.

Beach Safari
This trip is ideal for groups that include children under the age of 8 or those who have never been kayaking before. We will paddle to a nearby beach where we can stop to go snorkelling or swimming. We take maps and animal identification charts with us so you can learn about the area and it's wildlife.

Explorer Safari / Island Safari
Great for adults or families with teenage children. The extra time allows us to explore a little further and see more of the Mar Menor. We often visit an island during this trip where we can climb to the top of a hill and get a great view of the area (see photos above). We also have some time to snorkel and swim.

Adventure Safari
Ideal for those who are relatively fit and want to get some exercise. This trip is not available during August. We can visit an island on the Mar Menor and if the sea is calm head out onto the Mediterranean. Alternatively, for small groups, we can take the kayaks to the Calblanque Natural Park or Cabo de Palos where we can explore the beautiful scenery and enjoy some wave surfing. On this trip we can take a packed lunch or stop at a beachside café for a coffee and a snack.

Your accommodation:

We can offer both B&B and self catering accommodation which are located near to our watersports centre. There are also a number of hotels close by.

Please note: We are located in Mar de Cristal, therefore if you wish to walk to us from your accommodation we suggest that you stay in the village. It is also possible to walk to us from the apartments in Playa Honda, this takes about 20 mins. La Manga Club and Estrella de Mar are 10 mins away by car.

About the local area:

The Mar Menor is the perfect location for all types of watersports, whether it be dinghy sailing, windsurfing or kayaking. Dinghy sailors can enjoy a huge sailing area which is surprisingly under-utilised. Windsurfers can learn in shallow waters until they gain their confidence and kayakers can explore areas which are inaccessible to other craft.

Our watersports centre is located on the beach so for those not wishing to take part there is plenty of opportunity to relax and watch the activities. There is a large choice of accommodation within easy reach, some within walking distance.

La Manga (in English "The Sleeve") is a strip of land which separates the Mar Menor (Small Sea) from the Mediterranean. The Mar Menor is approx 18 km long and 10 km wide and it's waters range in temperature from 12 degrees in the winter to over 30 in the summer. The waters are non-tidal and shallow which is why it becomes so warm in the summer.

How to Get Here:

We are located on the Mar Menor in Murcia. The closest airport is Murcia San Javier (MJV) which is just 25 mins away. Alicante (ALC)airport is 1 hour 15 mins. Airport transfers can be arranged.

There is a straight road from the junction of the RM12 into Mar de Cristal lined with palm trees.
As you enter Mar de Cristal, go straight ahead at the first roundabout and right at the second roundabout. Follow the dual carriageway to the end, you will then be forced to take a 90 degree bend to the left. Follow the road around the corner and then take the second turn on the right (opposite the Upper Autoservico). Go straight down the road, over two speed bumps and then take the second turn on the left. We are in a large white house on the right hand side, one road back from the beach.
